For as long as the slightest brushwood (of the passions)
of man towards women is not cut down,
so long is his mind in bondage,
like the milch calf to its mother-cow.
夫不代樹 小多餘親 心繫於此 如犢求母
어떤 남자가 여인에 대해
아주 작은 (욕정의) 곁가지라도
베어내지 못하고 남겨두는 한,
마치 송아지가 어미를 떠나지 못하듯
그의 마음도 속박되리. (284)

Verify, from meditation arises wisdom.
Without meditation wisdom wanes.
Knowing this twofold path of gain and loss,
let one so conduct oneself that wisdom may increase.
念應念則正 念不應則邪 慧而不起邪 思正道乃成
명상하는 데서 지혜가 일어남은 아주 분명하네.
명상을 하지 않으면 지혜는 시들어가네.
득과 실의 이 두 갈래 길을 잘 알아,
지혜가 증장되도록 처신할지니. (282)
Who strives not when he should strive,
who, though young and strong,
who is loose in this purpose and thoughts,
and who is lazy
- that idler never finds the Way to Wisdom.
應起而不起 恃力不精懃 自陷人形卑 懈怠不解慧
노력하여야 할 때에 노력하지 않고,
젊고 힘셀 때에 게으름에 빠지며,
이 목적과 생각에 느려터지고 게으른 사람.
저런 게으름뱅이는
절대로 지혜에 이르는 길을 찾을 수 없으리. (280)
